Yesterday, I posted tips on more traditional means of purchasing (or obtaining) your textbooks. But as you know, we live in a different age where any and everything is available online; including new and used textbooks. Campus bookstores quickly sell their inventory and once the ship has sailed on Used books, baby, it's GONE! Thankfully there are countless websites where you can purchase and/or rent new and used books . This post suggest two of my favorite websites that provide these services.
*Quick Tip*- Obtain ISBN Numbers- When searching for textbooks online, searching by ISBN number is much quicker and ensures you receive the right edition/volume of the textbook that you are shopping for. This number is typically the ten digit number above or below the barcode on the outside cover of the book. I figured I'd throw that in here for free! READ ON!
This website allows for the purchase (and rental) of new and used textbooks. The site features a list of authorized sellers with competitive prices. You can search for your textbook by title, author, subject area and isbn numbers. The site also offers varying prices for the condition of the books. You can purchase books that are new, slightly new, good, or acceptable condition. Textbooks.com sorts prices from least to greatest and provides a range of shipping options ranging from next day delivery to standard business delivery. You can also track your orders on their website after they are shipped and communicate directly with the book seller. Finally, textbooks.com provides a platform for you to sell the books you purchased to the next student in need.
This is a new approach to acquiring textbooks that did not exist during my undergraduate years. I'm pissed about it especially since I'm uber impressed with the services that this company provides. In addition to fast and fabulous customer service, Campus Book Rentals offers a host of other amenities. There is a 30 day worry free guaranteed that ensures your money back should you drop or change classes. The site offers a range of rental periods as well as the option to extend if you need your books a little longer than anticipated. So you just use it until you're though. They provide a prepaid envelope for free shipping for book returns!!! Yes, FREE!!! Book delivery is always on time and if there are any problems there is an actual HUMAN customer service PERSON available to work with you in addressing your problem. Ya'll know I can't take those automated recording. Finally, everybody knows that end of semester buy back prices are a rip off. The meager penance they throw back at you after you've shelled out 2/3 of your summer earnings for textbooks is laughable. Renting is def the way to go to get around this problem and save save save. This company also provides monthly scholarships and giveaways. You could win their services and rent your text book for nothing. For the Flipping Win!!!
I've already started browsing the net for the best deals on books I'll be needing this semester and I encourage you all to join me.
I hope this is a help to someone. Take care and let's make this semester GREAT!
Till Next Time,
