I’m here today to talk fashion and style. I’ve got a young face and I’m constantly carded and mistaken for a high schooler. It’s a blessing and a curse. While I’m grateful that my good black is not yet cracking, I am a grown woman and I wish to be acknowledged as such. Now, I’m not saying that I’m totally trading my skinnys for business suits just yet. I‘m just making a commitment to look better all the time and I’m starting by learning to shop on purpose. This just means I’ve made a conscious decision to devote some time and energy to building a classic wardrobe filled with well fit staple pieces that will serve me for years to come.
College/grad school often spoils us. We grow accustomed to wearing whatever we want day in and day out because we’re just “going to class”. Whether your preference is sweats, jeans and sneakers, or knee boots and slinky nighttime tops during the daytime, the academic community is not usually one that inhibits personal clothing styles/preferences. When the time comes for us to step into the professional world, many of us struggle with dressing the part. If you start building a solid wardrobe as a student/grad student, you’ll find the transition a lot easier to navigate.
